So Long & Goodnight

The past couple of days has been rather tough or if I were being more optimistic I would be saying days of achievement. Never have I had to go through so many goodbyes and farewells in just a string of few days but it is nothing unexpected. I mean as we grow older, life becomes more challenging and difficult, two words with almost identical meanings yet so different in many ways. There is a very old and simple quote "Be careful of what you wish for as you just might get it" and how this quote has become more applicable in my life for the past 3 years.

Previously, it was just Kenneth when he and his sister left for Melbourne, then came the day Aaron and Wui Yang for the United Kingdom, Tien Jia for the States and most recently Jamie and Weinian for Tasmania and Melbourne respectively. If you guys know me well enough you will know that I am not exactly best of friends with all of these people but they all in someway play a role in my life that I miss when it's not around.

In addition to that, today we celebrated Tiffany Leong's farewell who will soon be departing to Melbourne to further her studies at the University of Melbourne. In my speech today to her I said "I am probably the only one in this room who can say I won't miss you as much as the rest, however I am looking forward to spending the year with you at Melbourne" and it was then and there that it hit me, I now finally knows what it feels like to lose a companion or in my case, companions. No matter what, each person plays a role in my life like for example, when TJ was around, I went to her place to personally deliver a cheesecake only to see that she had also bought for me a cheesecake or when Aaron and WY is around, we would be either hearing interesting KDU stories or gambling or parents money like we were Bill Gate's son.

At the end of the day I think it is the simple things that matter. When I leave Malaysia, I will remember every single small detail like how my door makes a loud noise whenever somebody opens or closes it or how magnificently clean Jo's and SuLing's floors are. Yesterday while waiting for Jamie to board into her plane, KP asked me "How do you know if your ready to go overseas and study?" I answered "You don't, you just have to try it and pray to god that you are".

(The Living Legend once wished for the opportunity for he and his friends to travel the world, to study overseas and look at where he is now?)
